Gainesville pest control

We are Florida's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Gainesville raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Gainesville pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
  • If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
  • Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
  • When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation

Gainesville Raccoon Control Tip: How To Stop Raccoons From Leaving Their Droppings In Your Pool
The attractions of having your own swimming pool in the yard is obvious, being able to take a dip in refreshing cool water without having to leave your home is obviously a big plus. However, things aren't always plain sailing once you have that clear blue water in your yard, and it is true that wildlife in the surrounding area may be attracted to the swimming pool itself. One of the species that you may encounter that definitely can be a problem around your swimming pool is the raccoon, and they can often be found swimming in the water, but also from time to time may be defecating in the pool too.

Why Do Raccoons Like To Defecate In Swimming Pools?
Raccoons are naturally quite secretive animals, and their instincts when pooping is to leave it in area where they won't have to see it, and they will often be found pooping in rivers and ponds in the wild too. They are naturally attracted to the water, but because they will usually prefer to be standing when they poop, it will often be on the steps of the swimming pool where the problem can be a particular issue. This can be a serious problems as raccoon poop can carry some diseases, and while most are killed by the chlorine in the pool, it is better safe than sorry when you have this kind of risk to deal with.

Using A Cover To Protect Your Pool
One of the first things that you can do that will make it more difficult for raccoons to start leaving their droppings in your pool is to install a cover over the pool that will prevent the animals from being able to get to the water. Some of these covers are manual ones that require you to pull the fabric over the water to protect it, while more advanced systems can do this with a touch of a button for you. By making sure you leave the cover over the pool when it is not in use, and that the cover also is over any steps down to the pool, this could solve the problem for you.

Deterrents To Keep Raccoons From The Pool
There are also other steps that you can take to try and keep raccoons away from the water of the swimming pool. One home-made option that is sometimes mentioned is to put some spiky surface on to the steps of the pool when it is not in use, such as a plate of anti-bird spikes or even a wooden board with some nails in it, to stop the raccoons from going down on to the steps. Alternatively, you could also use a wire mesh such as a fireguard around the steps of the swimming pool while it is not in use, to stop the raccoons from going down to the pool that way.

Using Fences To Keep Raccoons Away
A more permanent solution that will generally solve any raccoon problems around the yard and garden is to install a fence that will stop them getting anywhere near your pool. A good fence to keep raccoons away should be embedded around six inches into the ground, in order to stop those clever animals from burrowing their way underneath. On top of the fence, an electric wire is the best way to stop raccoons from climbing over, although razor wire can also work to help keep the raccoons away from your property, and by default will also help to stop them from pooping in your pool.
